I discovered this year that the half-life of turkey is 5 days. Some may think that it’s longer, but a day longer and I’m thinking its going to start developing a green sheen. It would take the deprivation caused by a Zombie Apocolypse for me to eat green meat, so I’m sticking with 5 days. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and that everyone is looking forward to Christmas. As you probably know, there are many events that can be incorporated into Dentoning during this time of the year. The big soirĂ©e is the Denton Holiday Lighting Festival, starting at 5:30 pm on the Square on Friday, Nov. 30. The schedule is plastered everywhere, so I won’t post it here. The forecast doesn’t predict particularly wintery weather, but it’s always fun. During the night of the lighting, the Square is closed off to all but pedestrian traffic, so Denton has the feel of Europe for a night. Personally, I’d like to see it that way on a regular basis.

One awesome thing about Denton is that almost any night, one can find something unique to do. A lot of it has to do with music, but not all. The Holiday season is extremely target-rich when it comes to Dentoning. The music at the tree lighting will be stellar, followed by Brave Combo at Dan’s for the First Annual Brave Combo Holiday Hoedown for the Animals. This is a fund raiser for the Denton Animal Shelter and promises to be a good time. Please support the animals of Denton……of both the two-legged and four-legged varieties..

Denton IS music and music IS Denton. We are so fortunate to have so many resident musicians who play on a regular basis in the haunts of our fair city. One such musician is the lovely Polly Maynard. Many of you know Polly, but for those of you who don’t, your loss. She is a delightful person and musician. Polly does mainly children’s music and can hold a group of kids spellbound with her fun, funny, whimsical, happy, unforgetable musical treats. The beauty of her talent is that it translates to the adult world. Polly is uniquely talented herself, and surrounds herself with other talented musicians. Jeffrey Barnes, of two-time Grammy-wininng Brave Combo, is a frequent part of Polly’s concerts and recordings. Polly is releasing a new CD entitled “The 12 Daze of Christmas” at 1 pm on Sunday at Sweetwater. I’ve had a sneak listen to the CD and it is great, awesome, wonderful…… It incorporates traditional Christmas music with Polly’s own masterful creations. It is definitely one that will appeal to all age ranges. If you haven’t been to a Polly-gig, make plans to be at Sweetwater at 1 pm on Sunday, Dec. 1..!! Another opportunity for great, local music is Bonnie and Nick’s weekly show on Tuesday nights, 7-9 pm at Fuzzy’s. Next week’s musical adventure will include Holiday music (go figure). Everything Bonnie and Nick does is wonderful, so the addition of seasonal tunes will make the show extra special.

Christmas has always been a special time for Dentoning. Warmer weather this year is making things a little atypical, but that could change in a heartbeat. In my opinion, there is no such thing as overindulgement in Live music…….. I hope to see you at the Tree Lighting, Polly’s CD release, Brave Combo’s animal gig and with Bonnie and Nick next Tuesday……..these are just some of the musical possibilities in the coming days. Lots of choices and lots of music………and none of it makes us bad people……

Enjoy Denton and enjoy the Holidays!!!!!
